When a mod calls itself “a revolutionary Minecraft mod”, you expect big things out of it. That’s how DivineRPG begins its thread on MinecraftForum.net, and to say this mod adds big things to the Minecraft world would be a huge understatement.
DivineRPG adds five new dimensions to the Minecraft experience. Across these dimensions, there are a total of 50 new mobs as well as 12 new bosses. So far, the newly released mod is getting good reviews from the Minecraft community.
The five new dimensions are accessed through special portals. The dimensions have names like “Azurite Forest” and “Mithral Mountains”, and each new dimension has its own unique fantasy style.
Each dimension also has its own set of mobs and items. The mobs are surprisingly difficult, and as players make their way through each dimension, they’ll need to make sure they are well-equipped for the journey ahead or else the mobs in the new dimension will tear them to pieces.
Players start in the Nether. They travel to the end and face an Enderdragon. Using the items collected from that first boss, they will make their way to all of the other new dimensions.
Players equip themselves using new ranged weapons like the Twilight Phaser. There are also improved close-range weapons, like realmite swords, which are significantly stronger than diamond swords.
There is even a new user interface called the Arcanium GUI which helps players track their mana. The name of that UI is appropriate, since players use arcanium to power their new weapons, including the Storm Sword, Staff of Light, Shadow Sword, and Ender Sceptor.
Each dungeon is also well-defended with a set of challenging enemies. Dungeons are filled with surprises like animated statues, demons, death hounds, and other fearsome-sounding creatures.
The ultimate goal of DivineRPG is to make Minecraft into a more RPG-like experience. One way the mod team has done that is by expanding the XP system. Players can now store XP points in blocks and bottles for future use.
However, some players are unimpressed by all the new additions to the mod. On a YouTube video for DivineRPG, one player says that the mod is disappointing because all the new dimensions reuse Notch’s sky terrain generation. Meanwhile, the fifty new mobs all use default movement patterns and the new ranged weapons use simple bow mechanics. In other words, DivineRPG doesn’t totally transform the Minecraft experience, it simply adds a new skin onto it.
But aside from that comment, comments about DivineRPG are generally positive.
