The Wii U is the lesser known third competitor in the console wars. Released a year before the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the Wii U has encountered its fair share of problems – mostly related to slow sales figures.
As the most family friendly console available today, it would make sense for one of the world’s most family friendly games, Minecraft, to appear on the console.
Unfortunately, according to Mojang’s CEO Markus “Notch” Persson, there are no current plans to bring Minecraft to the Wii U.
Notch revealed that information in a tweet sent on December 27, 2013:
I agree a Wii U version would make sense, btw. The only reason for no current plans is we’ve got too much work already. I <3 Nintendo.

Nintendo fans will be happy that Notch doesn’t have any personal vendetta against the Wii U – like his personal vendetta against Windows 8. However, that doesn’t make this news any easier to swallow if you were hoping for a Wii U version of Minecraft.
Minecraft is currently being developed for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, both of which should be released close to Summer 2014.
