Mob mods are often the most interesting mods available to the Minecraft community. Instead of adding new recipes, items, or biomes into the world, mob mods add exciting new creatures.
PokeMobs 1.6 is one of the most ambitious mob mods in the Minecraft community today. As you might have guessed from the name, PokeMobs is trying to add all 151 of the original Pokemon into the Minecraft world.
As of now, 26 Pokemon have been added to the mod. However, there is also a full-fledged combat system, biome generation tool, integrated XP, pokeballs, and everything else you’d expect to see in a Pokemon mod. In other words, a lot of work has gone into PokeMobs, and it is so much more than a simple mobs mod.
The 26 Pokemon are mostly standard starting area Pokemon, including fan favorites like Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. There is also Caterpie, Rattata, Pidgey, and other familiar creatures. Unique mobs like Vulpix, Farfetch, and even MissingNo have also been added to the mod. While 26 may seem like a low number, each Pokemon has its own unique characteristics, animations, and models, and adding a single new Pokemon into the game takes a lot of work.
Along with adding Pokemon into the Minecraft world, PokeMobs features a number of new items and gameplay systems. Players can now craft all four different kinds of Pokeballs, for example, or create a healing table for their Pokemon.
Pokemon level up from combat thanks to the integrated XP and evolution system. Nameplates and healthbars also appear over all mobs involved in a fight. And, a party system helps you and your Pokemon team up against enemies.
26 Pokemon have been added to the game so far, and that number is low because the modder took a prolonged break from the development of the mod. At times, it looked like the mod would never be updated again, but thankfully, the mod creator, seagoingmanatee, eventually caved to the demand. New updates will be released soon, and more Pokemon should be added in the next update.
That’s not all that seagoingmanatee has planned for the next update. He also claims to be working on features like:
-Randomly generated towns and gyms scattered around each biome
-Improved battle system
-Random Team Rocket attacks
-Multiplayer Support (!!)
Will PokeMobs every reach its goal of 151 Pokemon? That would be interesting to see, and the Minecraft community will just have to wait to find out. Until then, there are more than enough features in PokeMobs to keep you entertained.
