Random Biomes Mod for Minecraft 1.6.4/1.7.2/1.7.4/1.7.5

This mod is definitely not for everyone – it has the potential to ruin the continuity found in the game’s environment.  However, for those who are less concerned with that and just want more variety in the world, Random Biomes by Zeno410 and TheMasterCaver is a solid solution.

Random Biomes eliminates the game’s algorithm for determining which biomes appear next to each other.  In other words, as depicted in the screenshot above, a desert and snowy forest could easily appear in close proximity.

A note of interest is that “Random Biomes” is actually a world type in the list when starting a new world, right after Amplified Biomes.  This means that you can easily switch back to your normal world generation if you are not in the mood for randomness.

Aside from adding some chaos to the terrain, this mod also allows users to manipulate the frequency of particular biomes.  This is useful on a number of levels:

  • Players can create worlds made entirely of one or two types of biomes;

  • Certain undesirable biomes can be eliminated from the world (I’m looking at you and all of your laggy vines, Jungle);

  • Specific world types can be created (for example, drastically increasing the presence of ocean biomes to create a world of islands).

When this is considered, Random Biomes actually turns out to be pretty useful and not just fun.

How to install Random Biomes for Minecraft 1.6.4/1.7.2/1.7.4/1.7.5

  1. Download and install Minecraft Forge mod loader

  2. Download the latest version of Random Biomes from Curse Forge.

  3. Hold Windows key and press R to open the Run… dialog, or go to Start > Run.

  4. Enter %appdata% and navigate to your .minecraft/mods folder.

  5. Drag and drop the .jar file downloaded in step 2 into this folder.

What combination of biomes do you think would be the most interesting?  I was thinking ocean biomes combined with mountain biomes and maybe a forest here or there for some resources.  Leave your ideas in the comments!
