There are several different minimap mods available for Minecraft, and Rei’s Minimap is to the go-to mod for many Minecraft players. Featuring beautiful visuals, cave mapping, fast processing, and so much more, Rei’s Minimap makes it significantly easier to get around the Minecraft world.
Like most minimaps, Rei’s Minimap appears in the top-right corner of the screen by default. However, this can be changed using the minimap options menu. From the minimap options menu, there are all sorts of other settings to change, and players can customize exactly which data appears on the minimap at any one time.
For example, you can toggle whether your map shows water depth. Enabling that feature will show the bottom of any nearby body of water on your minimap. You can also choose how mountain terrain appears, as well as trees and other objects in the surrounding terrain.
Players can also set waypoints on their minimap to make it easier to get around the map. You can set a waypoint to mark a useful location, for example, or to pinpoint the spot where you need to go.
Other helpful settings include map opacity, font scale, zoom, texture, and filtering. It’s easy to play around with these settings until you find a settings configuration that works for you.
Mobs will also appear on the minimap if the setting is enabled. Using the entities radar, you can easily choose exactly which mobs appear on the minimap. The radar will show a different color for each type of entity, although the radar is not as specific as some players would like. Instead of showing players the specific type of animal, the entities radar will tell players whether there is an animal or monster nearby, which helps players to determine if a nearby creature is harmless. All of these filters can be enabled or disabled with the click of a button.
Many players will also appreciate the slime chunks finder, which are labelled with green dots on the minimap. While Rei’s Minimap will show you slime chunks, it won’t show you the locations of various types of ore. This is because this mod isn’t designed for cheating. Instead of showing you everything that can be found in the world around you, it gives players enough information to navigate the map while still preserving the mystery of the Minecraft world.
If you do need to find ore deep underground, there are minimaps for that, but Rei’s Minimap is not one of them. However, if you just want simple custom information displayed in a neat and understandable way, then Rei’s Minimap Mod will be perfect for you.
