Sky Survival maps are incredibly popular in the Minecraft community. Faced with a limited amount of resources and the ever-present danger of falling to their death, players must complete a series of challenges from thousands of feet in the air.
The Islands of Junara map takes the popularity of sky survival and makes ten hours of gameplay out of it. At ten hours in length, the Islands of Junara is one of the lengthiest Minecraft maps available today. It’s also one of the most entertaining.
As players navigate between different islands, they’ll encounter all of the following features:
-“Crazy loot”: The mod’s creator promises that loot will be one of the most entertaining parts of this map. This loot is inspired by Diablo III and Borderlands 2, and special artifacts grant players some incredible buffs along the way. For example, something called the Dungeon Hunter has all of the following enchantments: Power V, Punch III, Flame III, Infinity I, Unbreaking V, and Sharpness III.
-Dangerous caverns and deadly dungeons: Islands are filled with dangers for players. Players will encounter deadly mobs and all sorts of exciting mazes and traps underground.
-Beautiful and unique islands in the sky: When designing a map like this, it’s easy for all the islands to becoming repetitive. Fortunately, that’s not the case with Sky Survival The Islands of Junara. Instead, the map’s creator has taken the time to make some incredibly creative islands. One island is just a massive mob arena in the sky, while others are nothing more than narrow pathways. Some islands are found over massive fields of lava, while other islands are so big that they don’t even feel like a sky island.
-Challenges: As players travel through the sky islands, they can complete a number of different challenges. The map’s creator has outlined how many points each challenge is worth in this thread. For example, building a house out of gold blocks is worth 60 points, and killing a cow is worth 5 points. A list of high scores is published in that forum thread.
